What is West Coast Calling?
In May 2023 Fanny Kearse is tackling a big personal goal: compete in one of only five all female amateur boxing cards in the world on Vancouver Island, and then trek the 75km West Coast Trail. She made this an even BIGGER goal by deciding to create a documentary film of the training process, the boxing matches and journey on the West Coast Trail. Her mission is to present this documentary in schools, at libraries and in community spaces to discuss the power of having outlets for mental health, creating greater space and representation for BIPOC and marginalized folks and inspiring youth that your dreams can change your life.
A Message from Fanny
I am heading out on this journey alone, to show myself, to show Tre, to show all of my former students, to show the systems and prejudices that keep me marginalized, the power of not giving up on a dream, change CAN happen and that people who look like me deserve to take up space.
I am going to continue training, dreaming, working and breaking through gates that have been kept for far too long. I won’t be able to do it alone. Please follow, share, and donate if you are able to help me answer my calling and help impact the world.
I am excited to be building a team of other Black creatives to help tell this story. Is that you or someone you know? Let’s connect!
