Am I safe here?

Do I have anything to fear here?

I live in the land of the free,

The home of the brave,

But I look to my neighbours

And they puttin’ anotha’ sister in the grave.

Just a young biology student,

How can we circumvent,

The hatred,

The disrespect

That was bequeathed to her,

Just for being her.

Atatiana Jefferson isn’t to blame.

Atatianna Jefferson was a queen!

I dunno if it’s typical or grossly obscene,

but 99% of cops who kill don’t get convicted,

they’re job duties barely get restricted.

They can kill, they can beat,

But they can’t take the heat.

They say, “to serve and protect”,

Then show some fucking respect

And admit,

Whether it’s deep in your heart,

Or you were taught from the start,

You fear those with darker skin,

That those with more melanin

Make your question your superiority,

Make you defend your authority.

I see a nation in pain,

Crippled by fear,

So why do we sustain,

Such hate year after year.

Work through your racism without a gun in your hand,

Maybe it will be a lil’ easier to understand.

Ask for help to better serve humanity- there ain’t no shame,

But while you’re working out that racism,

You best be saying her name,
