Wakanda Forever
‘Can you define your role in your own words’?
Shit.
Looking back, this was, unequivocally, the beginning of the end.
Sweaty palms.
Deep breath.
Too loud sigh.
Shaky voice,
‘It’s somewhere between minister and mentor, teacher and therapist, activist and advocate, friend and foe. My role exists in the in-between; that space where we all go for true personal expansion. Change can only occur in the inbetween. I meet people in their inbetween to lighten their load so they can listen to their knowing and stay connected to their truest selves’.
Silence.
I told my administrator to just read the job description verbatim.
As she read, I went to my favourite place to daydream.
A place where the system isn’t broken and we ask ‘what happened to you?’ and we’ve left enough space for people to unpack their baggage. Sometimes this place feels as real to me as Wakanda…
A black panther deep in my soul
And she moans,
Power, opportunity, accessibility, safety--
to all the people.
