The Idea: Create a documentary chronicling the tumultuous, yet rewarding journey of two black females as they prepare to compete in the all female card, West Coast wonder Woman & trek the West Coast Trail in May 2022.
The Intention: To discuss the importance and impact of sport/ movement on mental health, intergenerational trauma, poverty, self-discovery; to connect with organizations/ businesses that can contribute, elevate and support this mission; to create broader visibility of BIPOC people existing in spaces they aren't typically shown or supported in.
The Inspiration: During Covid Christmas 2020 Fanny was struck by the pain and excitement she felt watching 'Worlds Toughest Race Eco Challenge Fiji', seeing only 1 all Black team out of 66 global teams. She recalled her time trekking Kilimanjaro and throughout the Rocky Mountains almost always the only Black trekker. After therapy, a suicide attempt, group therapy, more therapy and Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) Fanny knew she needed other resources, hobbies and support to lean into as she continued gaining control of her life, mental health and well-being. Hiking soon became one of these resources. As well as boxing. When West Coast Wonder Woman released the dates for May 2022, Fanny's birth month, she decided she would really celebrate. Fanny saw the opportunity to create impact, elevate a young female to bring on this journey, and the chance to illuminate and inspire other people on how to radically take care of their physical, emotional and mental health.
This vision can become a reality, but West Coast Wunda Women needs YOUR help! Please share this mission widely so that it can reach the eyes, desks and phones of those who can help on this mission. Please view the complete pitch deck below for more information.
